About "The President's Own"
The United States Marine Band
is America’s oldest professional musical organization and
the only musical organization charged to perform for the
President. Established in 1798, the band has performed at
the inauguration of every President since Thomas Jefferson,
who gave the band the title “The President’s Own.”
The Marine Band has been
called the "most venerable of all service bands" by RCA
Victor and named by Town and Country magazine to its
select list of "Class Acts in America." Marine Band
musicians appear at the White House more than 300 times per
year, and the band participates in more than 500 public and
official performances annually.

Each fall, the Marine
Band performs in communities across America on its annual
concert tour, a tradition initiated in 1892 by the band’s
17th director, John Philip Sousa. This year’s tour will take
the Marine Band to 45 cities across the southwestern United
States.
