All-Region Band and All-Region Orchestra tryouts are scheduled for
Friday, Dec. 7, and Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 at Southwest High School.

of the required method books and etudes for each wind instrument and percussion,
as well as performance guides for each. Most of the method books are
available for purchase at RBC Music, 4410 W.
Piedras Drive, and Southern Music Company, 1248 Austin Highway.
About
All-Region Auditions
Besides earning
the prestige of being recognized as one of the best high school musicians in
Region XI, students who earn a slot in the All-Region Band receive the honor of playing in a concert featuring the region's top
high school musicians. For each instrument, a select number of All-Region
musicians also qualify to advance for the TMEA All-Area competition in January to
vie for a spot in the TMEA All-State Bands.
Those
selected to the All-State level will earn the distinguished honor to
attend and participate in the 2007 TMEA Convention, Clinics and
Grand Concerts, to be held later in the spring at the Henry B.
Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
NOTE: Students
who wish to try out for the TMEA All-Region Band and Orchestra are required to
prepare all etudes in their entirety. The degree that region music is used for
performance grade varies by band and is at the discretion of the directors.
Although trying out for All-Region Band and Orchestra is encouraged, it is not
the deciding factor for band placement in subsequent years.
